University in Norway

The oldest and biggest university in Norway is the University of Oslo which presently has around 32,000 students enrolled in its Oslo, Norway campuses. Actually, there are two campuses – one which is the old University of Oslo campus at the Karl Johans gate, while the new one is at the Blindern area. This university in Norway’s Faculty of Law is at the old campus. Majority of the other faculties are based in the Blindern campus of the University of Oslo. The University of Oslo was formally set up in 1811 when it was known as the Royal Frederick University. It was renamed as the University of Oslo by 1939. Many alumnus of this university in Norway are quite famous now, including five Nobel Prize recipients.

Fee

The amount of around 80 US dollars or 420 NOK serves as the symbolic tuition fee that University of Oslo students have to pay. The student welfare organization known as “Studentsamskipnaden i Oslo” also charges an additional fee per University of Oslo student as the student’s individual contribution towards support of the various health care services, kindergartens, and housing services, as well as the cultural programs. It is the University of Oslo students who maintain the Radio Nova radio station, and the Universitas newspaper published weekly. Other than these, studies at the University of Oslo will not cost students any additional fee. Around 4,600 employees work for the University of Oslo in various capacities. The school has nine faculties or academic disciplines all in all.
